Notes: THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD ONLINE AND IN PERSON AT THE QFHS FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH CENTRE i.e. A HYBRID MEETING.

Guest Speaker: Dr Jennifer Harrison

Queensland Calling: 1847-1850

What attracted so many of our forebears to the infant northern outposts of New South Wales in the years at the end of the fourth decade of the nineteenth century ?  This presentation continues a theme commenced in Jennifer’s 2025 presentation.  A newspaper had been established, Dr John Dunmore Lang was extolling its virtues and New South Wales authorities were loathe to spend money on developing the distant settlements.  Who came?  What was here?  Why would anyone, let alone women and children, cross oceans to unknown futures?  We investigate why thousands ventured here during these years.
