Notes:This event will be held online and in-person at the QFHS Family History Research Centre i.e. a HYBRID meeting.
Guest Speaker: Dr Jennifer Harrison
On 10 Feb 1842 the Moreton Bay penal colony was declared open to free settlers. Who came? And Why? More importantly what was luring these pioneers? How did they get here? Did they stay?
This presentation seeks to explore how a former penal colony transitions to a town? Those who populate your research came in the years before Separation from New South Wales in December 1859 but during this relatively short period each batch of years held its own attractions and disadvantages. Let’s look at initial development and appreciate how intrepid, strong yet foolhardy and trusting our forebears were.
After the presentation our new 2025 Pre-separation Group members will be presented with their certificates.
