THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD ONLINE AND IN PERSON AT THE QFHS FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH CENTRE i.e. A HYBRID MEETING.

James McMaster was born in Liverpool and now lives in Marlow-on-Thames, near Heathrow Airport. His family comes from Antrim and both parents were born in Belfast.

His great grandfather John McMaster erected an obelisk and vault in the Belfast City Cemetery in the 1920s. The plaque referred to a “Lendrick McMaster interred in Ballymarlow”. The grave records at Ballymena Library listed a Lendrick McMaster in St Patrick’s Church Cemetery, Ballymarlow.

The gravestone was found by a Northern Ireland FHS member.

James will tell the story of how the discovery of the obelisk in the Belfast City Cemetery started a trail that then led him “across the water” (as they say in Belfast) to England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the USA.

The FHRC is opposite the intersection of Waring Street and Delaware Street in Geebung.

The Irish Interest Group assists members researching their Irish families. Meetings include presentations on Irish resources, research techniques and Ireland's history and culture.
