Queensland Passports Index 1915-1925
Published 2014-02$28.00 incl P&P $3.00 per item
This CD provides an index to information in a series of passport registers compiled by the Collector of Customs, Brisbane and currently held by the National Archives of Australia (Brisbane) (NAA Series B.P.384/1). During the 1974 flood in Brisbane the registers were submerged for 2-3 days. Following this they were transferred to the National Archives where action was taken to preserve them.
The National Archives of Australia describes the Passport Registers as “Core Records of Local Significance”. This index makes the content of these records much more accessible to family and other historians. It also extends the period for which Queensland passport information is readily available, complementing the Queensland State Archives on-line indexes to Passport Registers 1926-1939. The index has 13,268 entries, covering name, address, date, destination (begun in 1922), type of record (e.g. Issue, Renewal, Visa, Inspection, Endorsement), register volume and page number. Addresses are mostly from Queensland, but some are from interstate (Sydney and Murwillumbah) and overseas (including Canada, Papua, Solomon Islands, Ceylon, New Zealand, Fiji, Bengall East, China, Singapore and England). The index allows direct searching and sorting on name, address and the other details with QFHSdatasearch. Additional information in the registers themselves varies with the period, but may include how dealt with, passport number, number of warrant, remarks and other dates associated with the issuing of the passport. Some later entries include occupation. Remarks can include interesting details, with many referring to soldiers returning home after the Great War.
System Requirements: PC with Windows operating system (Win95 or later), CD drive and 20 Mb of free disk space to install QFHSdatasearch.
