Help Us Bring History to Life: Join the QFHS Volunteer Community

Since its founding in 1979, the heart of the Queensland Family History Society has been its people. Our transformation from a small group of enthusiasts into one of Australia’s leading genealogical societies was built entirely by the dedication of our volunteers.

For over 45 years, it has been the collective curiosity and hard work of our members that has preserved the stories of those who came before us.

Find Your Place in Our Story

When you volunteer with QFHS, you are doing more than just filling a role; you are joining a vibrant, supportive community of likeminded people.  We believe that everyone has a unique skill set to offer; whether you are a tech-whiz, a meticulous researcher, or someone who simply loves a good chat, there is a volunteer role waiting for you.

Our society thrives on a diverse range of activities, offering something for every personality:

  • For the People Person: Welcome new members, share your knowledge with beginners, or help us promote our events to the wider public.
  • For the Detail-Oriented: Dive into original records, help with indexing, or keep our library resources organized and methodical.
  • For the Tech-Savvy: Use your IT and website skills to help us bridge the gap between the past and the digital future.
  • For the Creative: Write compelling stories for our publications or help us market the society to a new generation of researchers.
  • For the Practical: From "odd jobs" and maintenance at Delaware Street to helping with the administrative duties associated with various activities our Society hosts and participates in
Flexibility That Fits Your Life

We understand that your time is a gift. That’s why we offer roles that fit your lifestyle—many of our research and technical tasks are perfect for working from home, while our Delaware Street premises offer a warm, collaborative environment for those who prefer to be on-site.

A Culture of Gratitude

Your contribution never goes unnoticed. Beyond the satisfaction of helping someone find a "missing link" in their family tree, we make sure our volunteers feel valued. From our regular catchups to our signature Volunteers Thank You Morning Tea at the end of the year, we celebrate the hands and hearts that make our Society possible.

Come help us educate, inspire, and connect. Help us ensure that no story is ever truly forgotten.
