Dorothy Wickham is an educator, researcher, publisher, professional historian, archivist and author. A director and co-founder of a successful boutique publishing house and a professional consulting historian, her strong background in archives and education led her to study social, cultural, and neglected categories of history.
She has written, published, designed, and co-authored many books and articles including The Eureka Encyclopaedia the overall winner of the 2005 Victorian Community History Awards and Women on the Diggings commended in 2010. Her MPhil was a case study in moral authority at Ballarat Female Refuge, an institution for single mothers and their babies. Her PhD examined the agency of women on the Ballarat goldfields (1851-1871).
Dorothy is engaged with some exciting new initiatives available on the World Wide Web. She has co-established and continues to maintain the Eurekapedia Wiki. She contributes to the Ballarat Industrial Wiki (Federation University), and is involved in adding items to Victorian Collections for Ballarat Heritage Services (available through TROVE). Dorothy is a Research Fellow at the Harry Gentle Resource Centre, Griffith University. Her project involves researching biographies of the first government-assisted free settlers to Moreton Bay (the 240+ passengers of the Artemisia). These entries will be added to a biographical dictionary of pre-separation Queensland people to be available soon.
Dorothy is a member of the Professional Historians Association (Qld) (Vic & Tas).
