Commonwealth Electoral Roll (Queensland) 1949
Published August 2008$42.50 incl P&P $3.00 per item
This CD indexes the details from the Commonwealth Electoral Roll for all electors registered in Queensland in 1949. The entries for over 756,000 electors cover name, title, sex, place of living, occupation, roll number, polling place and division. The index allows direct searching on name, year and the other details with QFHSdatasearch.
The material on this CD is an excellent source of public information on individuals. It covers all electors recorded in the rolls held in the National Archives of Australia (i.e. all registered electors for Queensland except for those who would have been listed in the unavailable supplementary rolls for Fisher Division) and lists all the information recorded in the rolls.
Enrolment and voting were compulsory, so Queenslanders from all walks of life
are included. The 1949 roll was compiled after a redistribution of electorates
and the CD includes maps showing the new Division boundaries. Combining the
range of information with the search specifications and sorting facilities in
QFHSdatasearch can be particularly useful for locating family groups, for example
by specifying a surname and sorting on place of living within subdivision.
QFHSdatasearch, developed by the Queensland Family History Society, is a generic interface designed to search genealogy databases. This version features field oriented and keyword searches, Boolean selection, sorting and wildcard searches.
System Requirements: PC with Windows operating system (Win95 or later), CD drive and 20 Mb of free disk space to install QFHSdatasearch.
