Moreton Bay Supreme Court Records 1857-59

Prior to 1857 major civil and criminal matters in the Moreton Bay Region of New South Wales were dealt with by the New South Wales Courts. The Moreton Bay Supreme Court Act 1857 established a Supreme Court in Brisbane. The records indexed include those of the Supreme Court, Brisbane, the Public Curator’s Insolvency Files and the Crown Prosecutor’s In-letters 1857-59 and cover bankruptcy/insolvency, civil proceedings, criminal proceedings, naturalisations and probates. They are all held at the Queensland State Archives (QSA). Approximately 7,770 names have been indexed from 22 primary records. Moreton Bay Supreme Court Records 1857-1859 lists the name, form of address (title), occupation, nationality, age (where known), date, notes on the involvement of the person, code and reference to the relevant record. The records may contain other information such as place of residence and family information.
