Army Index 1787, The

Was your ancestor in the army ... in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, America, Southern Charibee Islands, Nova Scotia, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Africa, East Indies, Portugal, Gibraltar, Germany, Havannah or Minorca? This CD provides a full index to The Army List 1787, published by the War Office on 15th February 1787 and previously published by QFHS as a microfiche publication.

It improves on the microfiche version by enabling direct searching of the index on name, rank and regiment using the QFHSdatasearch technology.

The index extends the name index for Officers of the British Army and Marines, in the original book by including officers on half-pay, adding entry details from the list and using exact name entries from the list in all cases. Over 9500+ names are indexes including 4200 officers on half-pay.

The index covers name, title (where given), rank, regiment, whether cavalry, infantry, or on half-pay, and the page reference. Additional items in the book are dates of attaining current rank in the regiment and army (not for half-pay officers), dates of attaining various ranks for General and Field Officers, dates of disbanding or reducing regiments (half-pay officers), and agents for the regiments.

QFHSdatasearch, developed by the Queensland Family History Society, is a generic interface designed to search genealogy databases. This version features field oriented and keyword searches, Boolean selection, sorting and wildcard searches.
