Queensland Globe: get hands-on with Queensland geography (July)

Presenter: Dr Kerry Raymond

This will be delivered online.

Queensland Globe is an interactive mapping website providing access to the spatial information held by the Queensland Government. It is a powerful tool with an extensive array of information that can be overlaid on the maps, but it can be overwhelming for the beginner.

This hands-on session will be aimed at beginners including: navigating around the Globe, searching for locations by a range of methods, obtaining information about a particular place, and working with the hundreds of built-in data layers (some of which will be included in the presentation).

Some of the limitations of the Qld Globe will also be discussed. Note that Queensland Globe primarily deals with current information rather than historical information

Our presenter, Kerry Raymond

Please note: As this is a hands-on computer-based session, participants should be confident with basic computer skills, using keyboard and mouse, copying and pasting.

Online Repository Assistant (ORA)

Presenter: Chris Wright

This FREE event will be delivered online

Online Repository Assistant (ORA) is an automated assistant for use with online repositories including Ancestry, FamilySearch, and others.

ORA combines a Windows program with a web browser extension, which when added to your favourite web browser (e.g. Google Chrome) will extract data and streamline your use of popular online services. The browser extension is compatible with Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera.

ORA has two functions.

One function enables you to record the status of any record in the online repository so you know if you have used it before, plan to use it, are considering using it , or have rejected the record.

The second function collects the information found in the record and transfers it to your genealogy program or another program.

This session will provide you with an introduction to ORA, the Online Repository Assistant, written by John Cardinal, to assist you with your online research and sourcing.

Please note: ORA is a subscription based service.
