People could be called before a Queensland government committee regardless of their status or occupation but they did need to explain why they were appropriate witnesses. As a result, we get insights into their personal history and the life of the times we would not otherwise get. Furthermore, we get it in their own words. The proceedings of government committess are therefore a valuable source of information which can be backed up with a range of other resources such as photographs, news items, and other documents.
