Geoff Morgan

Geoff has been researching his family history for about 30 years, and has been a member of the Queensland Family History Society for much of that time. Currently he is involved with a number of the Society’s activities, such as co-convenor of the Family Tree Maker User Group, manager of the Society’s CD collection, as well as assisting more generally with the Library and Resource Centre’s computer network at Gaythorne. Over recent years he has presented on a range of family history topics, for QFHS, Moreton Regional Council Libraries, other family history societies and local community groups. Geoff has also written a number of articles published in the Queensland Historian. In recognition of his contributions to family history, he received the QFHS Award for Services to Family History in 2009.

During his professional life, Geoff worked as a primary school teacher and administrator, as well as a sessional university lecturer and tutor. In 2012, he published a biography of one of his great-grandfathers: Dan Desbois (1836-1898): a Life of Spiritual, Educational & Military Service. This book provides a detailed account of Dan’s life, and in 2013 won the inaugural Don Grant Award for Australian biographies with a family history focus, organised by the Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies (now known as Family History Connections).
