Kaye Nadella started as a cartographic cadet with the Department of Mapping and Surveying in 1978. Her roles included drawing topographic maps, survey plans, updating working maps with changes to tenure, and adding data to the digital cadastral database.
After finishing the required Cartography course, Kaye completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1988 studying as many history subjects as she could because of a growing interest in history. The next course she completed was a Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies in 1997.
From 1998 she worked part-time as an archivist with the John Oxley Library and part time with the Department of Natural Resources and Mines working with an application that brought together a number of departmental records. Kaye took up a full-time position with this department in 2004 and she was appointed senior curator of the Museum of Lands, Mapping, and Surveying in 2007.
