John William Tighe - Blind Teacher throughout Queensland in 1880s. John William Tighe (1858-1909) went blind at 20, and from 1883 spent 5 years wandering outback Queensland searching for blind people in order to educate them. In 1889 he moved to Auckland NZ, searching for and educating blind people until 1905, then returned to Sydney. He set up Schools for the Blind in both countries. Visitors welcome.
