Volunteers Always Welcome

We are frequently looking for volunteers to assist with the many projects that are being undertaken by the Society's members. For example, tasks such as publishing and maintaining our library, bookshop and resource centre often need assistance. "Jobs" range from small to medium to large, eg proof-reading, indexing, filing, housekeeping, odd jobs that a handyperson would find no difficulty doing. And anyone with computing experience, such as the skills needed to create a database, you'll be most welcome.

Listed below are some "positions vacant" for volunteers needed to assist with managing the many tasks associated with QFHS Inc.

Guest Speaker Coordinator

The position would suit members who have a reasonable knowledge of genealogy, family history and resources generally, with ideas on promoting related topics and/or speakers to address general meetings. You will need to liaise with prospective guest speakers, make the necessary arrangements for them to be met and organise any equipment required for their presentation.

Enquiries to Dawn

Indexers

Indexers required to help with current projects. As little as one hour per week would be very much appreciated. All source data is supplied and you work to your own timetable at home on your own computer.

Enquiries to the Publications Team.

Photographers

Members with an interest in commercial and/or hobby photography and who would like to assist with the George Bond Photographic Collection of cemetery photographs of gravestones are invited to volunteer their services. This would suit anyone used to working a camera that uses film (not digital). All film will be supplied and processing costs will be borne by George himself.

Library Assistants

The Library and Resource Centre presently operates up to 26 hours per week providing wide ranging hours for genealogical research. This is made possible through the very generous efforts of some 50 or more members who volunteer their time as Library Assistants to provide a service to our many members and visitors. For various reasons we need backup volunteers to fill in during short absences and replace those who are unable to continue in this role.

Becoming a Library Assistant is a great way for Members to learn more about the Society’s resources and the experience can add to your own research knowledge. Initially we will team you up with an experienced assistant so there is no need to be apprehensive about your lack of knowledge. All that is required is that you give at least half a day per month.
