Public and Civil Service: An overview

The Public Service (and its forerunner, the Civil Service) indexes provide the researcher with the names of officers employed in the various Queensland Government departments. They include details of the officers’ date of appointment to present class and some entries provide additional information about the officer in footnotes — eg some indicate when positions were abolished and occasionally dates of retirement or death. Highlights: name, present office, location, category (classified etc), division (professional etc), class, date of birth (where given), date of initial appointment and page reference to Government Gazette notices. The latest digital version of earlier microfiche productions allows for searching on fields, keywords, Boolean selection, sorting and wildcard searches using QFHSdatasearch, a generic interface designed to search genealogy databases. Also links search results to images in .pdf files of the source records.
