Centre
You'll find us at 58 Bellevue Avenue, GAYTHORNE,
a northside suburb of Brisbane. Please note that this is not a
lending library except for selected journals and publications that go on
circuit to our Queensland country members residing outside a 50 Km radius
from the Brisbane GPO. This is known as the Journal
Loan Scheme (JLS).
A small fee for
their printouts and photocopies, computer disks etc. You pay the duty library
assistant before you leave.

Enjoy unrestricted access to all available resources including
use of all equipment and facilities free of cost.

Non-Brisbane residents who are financial members of a society
with whom we have a reciprocal arrangement -

city of a society with whom we have a reciprocal arrangement -
Reciprocal visitors will be expected, on arrival, to produce
to the duty library assistant -
- satisfactory evidence of residency and
- current membership of a participating society when registering
to use the library.
QFHS enjoys reciprocity with these societies -
*As of 1 July 2005 SAGHS members swipe a perpetual plastic membership card through a reader to access their library. The new card does not display an expiry date and therefore SAGHS members wishing to access the QFHS library under the reciprocal arrangements between the two societies will need to obtain a letter of introduction on SAGHS letterhead prior to their visit at
Gaythorne.

Financial members of an Associate Group having a current
membership with QFHS enjoy visiting rights and may use our library and resources
free of cost provided that -
- no more than two members per Associate Group use the
library at any one time unless by prior arrangement,
and
- bookings for the use of microfilm machines and/or computers
are made no less than one week in advance of the visit.
Bookings may be made -
No bookings - no guarantees!
Associate Group visitors will be expected, on arrival, to
produce to the duty library assistant -
QFHS members do not enjoy reciprocal
visiting rights and will need to pay the appropriate non-member entrance
fee, if requested, by the Associate Group societies
Visitors and Unfinancial QFHS Members … Pay
an entrance fee of (from 1 July 2006), $7.50 per hour (minimum) or $15 per session extending
beyond one hour (rates include GST). A rebate of the amount paid will apply
if, at the end of two weeks, an application is made for membership of our
Society.
Any friends or relatives accompanying a visitor to the library
with the intention of assisting with research, must -
- produce satisfactory evidence of current membership
of either QFHS or a group with whom we have a Reciprocal or Associate
Group membership arrangement, or
- pay the visitor's entrance fee.

Ample
free car parking is available in Bellevue Avenue. Limited parking is reserved
for duty Library Assistants and management committee members
behind the library. One reserved parking bay is available (maximum 4 hours) to holders of a Blue Disabled Parking Permit in Bellevue Avenue at the main entrance.

Gaythorne railway station is on the Ferny Grove line. QR provides a regular service on weekdays; at weekends the service is less frequent.

The library is disability access friendly including unisex
toilet. One reserved parking bay is available (maximum 4 hours) to Blue Card holders in Bellevue Avenue at the main entrance.

(A
polite request): Please take care when using equipment
in the Library. Sometimes equipment faults are caused by mishandling or carelessness.
For example:
- a broken fan might be due to unnecessary pressure on
the controls, and
- the photocopier might jam for the unsuspecting
operator if not cleared by a previous user.
Some donated equipment is often near impossible to
repair due to age and unavailability of replacement parts. In these
situations, there is no alternative but to dispose of unserviceable
items (to the detriment of members and users of the Library). Should
you become aware of faulty equipment please advise the duty Library
Assistant so it can be checked as quickly as possible.

A small charge applies for private use of the
telephone for outward calls. See a Library Assistant. See other
details for the library telephone number.

The Society is continually upgrading and installing additional
computer equipment to provide members with free access to email and the Internet.
With the growth of computer-based genealogical data, this method
of researching your family history is proving a real boon to members.
Existing research resources have also been greatly expanded
with the purchase of a large number of CD-ROMs, giving the Society one of
the largest genealogical CD-ROM collections in Australia.
The library and resource centre also now provides desktop
publishing equipment for the benefit of members wishing to turn their manuscript
into an award winning, professionally printed version of your family's history.
Try it out soon.
Details of all library additions (print and microform) are
published in the Society’s quarterly journal, Queensland Family Historian.
