Articles for Publication
The Society invites for publication in Queensland Family
Historian (QFH) articles, news and other items of interest to our members
and reader audience about -
-
family narratives
-
general stories: clan, family, local and military history,
social conditions, family and school reunions, diaries, letters,
convicts, personal research successes, immigration
-
genealogy
-
research tips: Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders,
overseas sources, recommended accommodation close to research
repositories, adoption, certificates, newspapers, inquests
-
lists: ships, shipping, names, one-name research
-
interest groups: research, achievements, reports
-
help: needed, offered
-
birth, death and marriage certificate prices and services,
and
-
any other matters that reflect the Society's aims and
objectives.
Articles for publication may be submitted to the Editor who will give preference to contributions (choose from options below) that are -
- sent on 3.5" floppy or CD-ROM saved as Microsoft
Word (*.doc) or in rich text format (*.rtf) with minimum formatting
and supported by hard copy
- emailed as an attachment with minimum formatting, saved
as above
- typewritten, one side only with adequate top, bottom,
left and right margins, each submission beginning with a clearly
identified heading and on a fresh page
- clearly and legibly handwritten, each submission beginning
with a clearly identified heading and on a fresh page.
Photographs in support of text are also very welcome
and will be considered for publication only if good quality prints
are submitted. (Under/over-exposed images and dark backgrounds
do not reproduce well.)
Photographs need to -
-
be suitably captioned on the back
-
include details of the photographer's name and who owns
copyright (if known), and
-
be identified with your name and contact details.
Scanned images as *.jpg, *.bmp or *.tif files also welcome together with details of copyright ownership, owner's name and contact number.
The receipt of submitted material will be acknowledged if
a stamped, self-addressed envelope (ssae) is provided. Disks and photographs
will be returned to the author after publication. In some cases material
may become separated for various reasons in the lead up to printing and it
is in everyone's best interests if all material were identified with the
submitter's name and contact details eg address, telephone and email.
The Editorial Committee reserves the right to -
- decide on the article's suitability for publication
- determine when it will be published
- edit text if considered necessary.
Copy in the hands of the Editor no later than 20th March, June,
September, and December for publication in the next issue two months later.
Journals are published in February, May, August and November.
