QFHS Publications : Books, Microfilm, Microfiche and CD-ROMs: Online Catalogue
Government Gazettes contain a wealth of information on a wide range of topics and researching particular individuals in hard copy format is a daunting task. Each volume has an index to its notices, but no consolidated index is available to facilitate access. Researchers will therefore
welcome the latest CD version of our Consolidated Index 1859-1919. This will make the task of searching so much easier. The digital edition comes with QFHSdatasearch Version 1.5 whose features include field oriented and keyword searches, Boolean selection, sorting, wildcard searches and in some cases links between search results and source image .pdf files. This consolidated index gives
researchers access to all Queensland Government Gazette notices from 1859 to 1919 but excludes (in particular) any notices relating to Intestacy, Insolvency and Wills and Members of School Committees which exist as separate major QFHS indexes in their own right. The CD includes approximately 125,000 indexed notices covering name, title, topic, location, volume, year and page(s) relating
to the entry. The Gazette notice will provide additional information, the exact nature of which will depend on the topic eg Trade Mark and Patent notices refer to people residing in other Australian colonies and overseas. Searching the index by name, topic, location and year is now made easy using the capabilities of our very own developed QFHSdatasearch interface.
The Gazette is still advertised today as "the recognised information source for the Queensland Government"
As an adjunct resource, Government Gazette facsimiles, a joint project with ACDBA, are high quality scanned images of the whole of the original gazette volumes. They are in CD format and are viewable using any computer with access to Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 4 or later recommended). All text is searchable - search for any word - names, places and more.
