The Irish Interest Group (IIG) invites country members
to share their interests in Irish genealogy and family history by submitting
ancestors' names to the group for linking and cross referencing. Also we
are interested in hearing from country members with suggestions about other
ways it can assist you with your Irish research. Email the group or write
to Irish Interests Group, QFHS Inc. PO Box 171, Indooroopilly Q 4068. Please
send whatever details you have about your ancestors and, in addition to surnames,
the following (if known) would be especially helpful: townland, county, data/place
of arrival in Australia, any other relatives known to have arrived here,
and name of the ship. When writing, please supply preferred contact details,
QFHS membership number, and most importantly, permission to share your details
with other members. Further information. Contact
details. Top of page
The Society maintains up to date links with many other
kindred societies worldwide and receives under reciprocal arrangement, copies
of their journals and newsletters in exchange for Queensland Family
Historian. Such publications give details about overseas
sources and records, new releases of searching aids, members’ interests;
historical information about the local towns and villages, and often
they provide details of other links and points of contact which can be
put to good use by the astute researcher.
After a qualifying period of time in the library, these journals and
newsletters are LOANED to financial Queensland country members who
reside outside a radius of 50km from the General Post Office, Brisbane.
Eligibility to participate in this scheme is not available to members
until they begin year one of a full year’s membership. A maximum of 10 selections applies.
Journals requested are dispatched to groups of participating
members. A circulation list and individual labels are attached to the inside
cover of each journal. After a member finishes with the journal,
or when the permissable loan period expires, whichever is the sooner,
s/he posts it on to the next name appearing on the list. Further
information. Top of page

Adoption Scheme for Remote Area Members (ASRAM)
This service provides city members with an opportunity to ‘adopt’ a country, interstate or overseas member to assist with research on a voluntary and in some cases, a reciprocal basis. Where out-of-pocket expenses are to be met, both parties would need to reach agreement in advance on how costs are to be recouped for matters such as photocopying, certificate purchases, computer printouts etc and in the case of a city member, cost of travel to repositories. Further information. Top of page
