Introduction
The Society provides assistance to
anyone tracing their family tree – whether they be an absolute
beginner or a long term devotee.
If you are just starting out on the fascinating hobby of
researching your family tree, you will benefit greatly by attending
a workshop designed especially for the "newby". One session
of particular relevance is the new members
welcome and orientation (NMO):
the objective being to familiarise yourself with
the library and its vast resources.
Secondly,
register yourself to attend one or both "how to" workshops focusing
on managing
your records and beginning
to trace your family tree. These workshops
are conducted by the Society's Education Officer; other subjects are
covered by similarly experienced volunteer members. Workshop attendance
gives you the advantage of learning tips, tricks and techniques to assist
in your genealogical research.
Progressing further down the genealogical track and, depending
on your own particular ancestral origins, we encourage you to join
selected special interest groups (SIGs). They meet regularly
to discuss ways and means of furthering self-paced research, tailored
to the individual's interests.
