Please do not click on reply to contact Snippets - the 'click on reply' facility is strictly for 'un-subscribing' to the mailing list.

You are encouraged to contribute items which you feel would be of general interest to the family historian hunting for that illusive relative. Humorous items and items relating to the technology of using computers in genealogy are also welcome. Submit your BRIEF items supplemented by hyperlinks pointing to additional details if any.

Snippets will rarely include items of a commercial nature and only then when they are likely to be of interest to a majority of our readers.

5. Book of Scottish Connections
The Registrar General for Scotland is planning to introduce a new public record to be known as the "Book of Scottish Connections" (BSC). For the first time, people all over the world, with a Scots connection, will be able to apply (for a fee) for a birth, death, marriage, or civil partnership abroad to be recorded in the BSC held by the Registrar General in Edinburgh (provided that the event has already been registered with the civil registration authorities of the country in question). A commemorative certificate of the event (and the Scots connection) will then be available from the registration service in Scotland , to be preserved as a part of the family history record. If you think you might be interested in applying to have an event recorded, you are asked to complete a simple on-line enquiry form to allow the Registrar to assess the likely demand.
