Vale Allen LobegeigerIt is with considerable sadness that we advise members of the death of Allen Lobegeiger, Honorary Treasure of QFHS Inc., on Wednesday, 1 October 2008.Allen was a quiet gentleman with many skills and interests. When he expressed an interest in becoming the Treasurer, Management Committee members were delighted and welcomed him at his first Committee meeting in September 2007. During his short tenure his financial skills have been of great benefit to the Society. His attention to detail, not only in his treasury portfolio, but in all facets of the management of QFHS ensured the highest standard was maintained. Allen had an impish sense of humour which often came to the fore. Many a time I would start a conversation with "Allen, can I/we/you..?", a sentence never quite finished as instantly, with a gleam in his eye, the reply would be "I'm playing bowls". The next question, however, would be from Allen "What was it you were wanting?" Allen constantly read - history, sport, and travel. He traced his family, and was planning to research additional indexes and books in the search for further details. On behalf of members of Queensland Family History Society Inc., sincere condolences have been extended to his family. Allen will be missed by all who new him. Top of page 5. Acquisitions ConvenorWe have been advised by the QFHS Acquisitions Convenor, Stan Clark that he wishes to retire from the position at the end of the year. Therefore, we are inviting members to consider filling this important position. The role involves recommending to the Management Committee books, CDs and microfiche/film which would assist members and visitors in their research and when approved arrange the ordering and payment of the acquisitions. Please contact a member of the Management Committee if you are interested in becoming the Acquisitions Convenor. 6. Can You Help?We are in need of a few volunteers to help keep the QFHS Library Resource Centre operating to the highest possible standard.Library Assistants - apart from aiding researchers, it is a wonderful opportunity to expand your own knowledge of what is available in books, on fiche and microfilm, as well talking to the researchers who may have experienced similar 'brick walls' as yourself. Interested? Please contact the Library Roster Organiser, Hazel Clark on (07) 3395 2587 7. QFHS Christmas HamperChristmas is just around the corner!
